The last tip relates to your voice. Here it might help if you think about a piano. The piano strings to be precise. The lower notes are longer and the strings are thicker. The strings are thinner and the higher notes are shorter.

This means that when singing the higher notes, you would shorten your vocal chords. or the sound will not come out.

I got my set of this wonderful karaoki instrument from a distributor of my old country, the Philippines. But is is now available in the internet. You can just go to google and search “karaoki” or “magic sing”.

To be an effective karaoki singer, you have to follow these 6 great tips:

1.It is preferable to have your own karaoki set. Or you can go to your friend’s house who owns the system. The idea is you have to be able gto practice your songs. The karaoki system includes the scoring system that automatically scores your grade after your performance.

To develop your voice and technic, you have to practice, practice, practice. Why do you think Michael Jordan became the No.1 basketball star? The answer is repeated practice, countless times. That’s the
only way excellence is achieved.

2. You have to try several songs of several artists and test your own voice range with that of the artist’s. You cannot be a Pavaroti if you do not have his range of voice. So explore and listen to the various songs and select the possible songs that you may abe able to use.

3. Once you have selected at least a dozen of songs, try singing them. Follow the words as they are printed on the TV screen, and observe and follow the “tempo” or “timing” of the melody. This is one of the ways to have a higher score.

4. Select at least three songs and master them. How do you master them? Again, practice, practice, practice. After you have mastered three songs, select the best one as ” your special song”. And choose the second best song as a reserve, just in case the crowd wants you to sing one more time.

5. While you are practicing, get somebody else to listen to you and act as your critique so that you can
improve your technique or performance. Your best friend or your spouse who have your best interests is the best source of opinion about your performance.

6. The best etiquette or rule to follow during the karaoki session: do not monopolize the singing sessions. Give chances to other singers. Remember how to be good in conversation, “don’t be a bore”. To shine as a karaoki star, sing your best song, and maybe followed by your second best. And the audience will crave for more of your performance. So stop there, you do not want to over-expose your acquired new talent.

Shyness can start at an early age and this can have a great effect on your life as an adult if it goes unchecked. A parent who notices some symptoms of shyness in his child should help his child become more confident by encouraging him to play with other kids or to learn special skills that will expose him to groups of people.

If you are a student then you can join school activities like the Intramurals or other programs where you can showcase your singing prowess. Success and popularity are like magnets that attract people so if you are able to sing well at these events, you will have a small group of people who will start talking to you all the time or would even go far to accompany you during mealtimes.

If you are an office worker then why not showcase your singing prowess during the office party? Everybody loves a winner and if you can show them you can sing well then you would be an office favorite especially during programs.

Singing will give you the opportunity to believe in yourself and show yourself that you have a special talent you can share with others. As you gain a lot of confidence in your singing you would be able to socialize better and to develop rapport with people.

Singing is a hobby that requires training and hard work. You will not learn how to sing overnight so you have to invest time and effort in singing. As you practice your skill in singing you would be able to unlearn shyness and then learn some socializing skills that will help you get along with other people later on.

Shyness is really lack of character and deficiency in your self worth. In order to get a big and powerful singing voice, the singer needs to incorporate many singing techniques together.

Furthermore, this can only be done by practicing regularly with the correct vocal exercises.
Now to open up further for bigger singing sound, the singer has to open the area near the base of the tongue. This can be down by imagining the beginning of a yawn. This imaging opens up the singing pathway, keeps the tongue in the correct position and lifts the soft palate making your mouth shaped like a megaphone. A megaphone produces a bigger sound doesn’t it?

With this mouth structure, the back of the throat will naturally open up making the critical link between the vocal tone colors of the upper and lower resonances possible. While you are singing, the inner structure of your mouth is constantly working, moving to fine tune the oral cavity until the feel and sound of any sustained note just right.

The correct position of the mouth should thus be a slight oval like the picture above, with the corners of the mouth drawn in and the jaw down. It is critical that your lips are relaxed. If your lips are not relaxed, tension will accumulate around the jaw and your mouth making your singing tone sounding tight and tensed.

When your singing mouth is in this position, the jaw, tongue and the palate will not be so rigid and will be responding to the direction of the inner ear. As you gain more experience, you will be sensitive to the feeling of the mouth cavity subtly adjusting to each vowel as it fits into the available space in your mouth.

All this amazing mechanism takes place just because of your imaging of the beginning of a yawn. However of you generate a full yawn, then the voice box will be lowered too much and that creates a new obstruction in your singing pathway rather than freeing up your voice so that you can have a big singing voice.

Another source singing pathway blockage is your tongue. Just make sure that your tongue is relaxed and sits comfortably against the back of your bottom teeth. If your tongue pulls back, the airflow will be obstructed and will divide the mouth and throat into 2 resonators. On the other hand, it the tongue lift up too high, the mouth will be separated into two resonator, front and back.

Therefore the optimal mouth position when sustaining tone on a vowel for the big singing voice is a flat forward relaxed tongue position just behind the lower teeth oval mouth position and the imaging of the beginning of a yawn. What follow naturally from here will be a bigger and a more powerful singing voice. To get that big powerful singing voice, regular vocal exercises are crucial.

The unassuming nature of Susan Boyle compared to her voice stunned everybody. But what made her to be such a good singer? What catapulted her to stardom in just a few days? Before we learn some tips from her, a little about her background will be appropriate. Born April 1, 1961 to Pete Boyle, who was himself a singer, and Bridget, a shorthand typist. So we can say her talent is partly from something in her gene.

She also took some singing lessons and attended Birmingham Acting School. Short of that, all we know is that most of the singing she did was in her local church. Although the society, especially the judges of competitions tend to look at physical appearances, Boyle was determined not to hide her talent. Equipped with such a determination, she had appeared in a number of competitions.

Her not winning in those competitions was not because she was untalented, but mostly because of the false image of what a supposed singer must look like:beautiful,gorgeous and young.

This was the same in the “Britain Has Talent” competition. As she stepped on stage, everybody was expecting a squawking voice, but were geared to reality as her voice pierced through the air. Appearance, the judges came to understand, does not a talent make. What are some tips and lessons we can take from Susan Boyle?

First of all, Susan Boyle knew she had some talents in singing. Mainly for spiritual purpose of singing to God, she took some singing courses. She is also a determined lady never to give up on pursuing what she enjoyed doing. That is why in spite of her failures in previous competitions, she still entered “Britain Has Talent”, where her star really shined.

Her training showed off as she hit high notes continuously without losing her breathe or the quality of her voice. This is where most singers fail. Reaching high tones is more of a psychological trick than technique. It could be illustrated this way:

Moving a car forward requires putting it in gear 1 after starting it. But in order to continue moving steadily and smoothly one needs to almost immediately put it in gear 2, then 3 and so forth. In reaching high tone, say C, what one needs to do is reach a slightly higher tone than C. Then almost automatically, all by itself the tone will come to C.

In other words, hitting exact tone at once is disastrous, a little higher tone should be reached first. Then this way, the tone needed will be struck, almost by itself.

Another thing we need to discuss is about vocal choirds. Vocal chords are the instrumental strings of the voice. It could be illustrated with piano strings. The lower notes are longer and thicker, while the higher notes are shorter and thinner. Applying this to singing, the vocal chords need to be shortened when singing higher notes in order for the sound to come out well.

All these Susan Boyle mastered because she did not give up on her dream of becoming a good singer. She as well took steps to singing mastery by taking lessons in singing. But most important, she pushed herself to success by undauntedly stepping forward. Now she is a star, known, viewed and heard by millions.

I am sure you must have watched the TV singing competition show “American Idol”. You must be laughing and rolling on the floor when you see American idol wannabes making a fool of themselves in the preliminary rounds. There were those who were tone deaf, those who have forgotten the song lyrics, those who were just disastrous singers and a pain to listen to and those who are so outrageous in their performance that they over perform ridiculously.

Now, you will notice that the contestants that make it through to the later rounds do not share the characteristics and antics mentioned above. Those who made it to the finals are class acts in themselves. Why? In short, they were well prepared for the singing contest. So you should learn from the mistakes of those contestants that did not make it and learn the good habits from those that made it to the finals.

Armed with these skills, then go and join any singing contests you can find and yes, when you are ready, only when you are ready, then join the American Idol singing contest. Basically throat singing is a way to express oneself. The art of throat singing is attached to the Inuit culture. In Inuit culture it was performed by women folks in order to entertain each other during leisure. Although there is no written document regarding the time of evolution of such singing culture, it gained much popularity in the form of throat singing CDs in the present era. 

In throat singing two women would stand opposite to each other clasping the arms and start singing one after another. The lead woman would utter sounds through her throat which are relatively short, leaving some gap in between the syllables. The other one would try to fill up those gaps with her sounds. It is said that women used to breathe in one another’s mouth to resonate the sound. It is not that throat singing was performed by women only, men also used to sing it in groups. 

In Inuit culture, throat singing was more of a game than singing. People used to perform it for fun by participating in a competition. One who loses his/ her breath in the process of singing is declared as the loser. The game usually takes three minutes to complete. Of course, in a tournament the winner is one who defeats every body.

Throat singing in Inuit culture had different names according to different region and we can still find such singing being called as pirkusirtuk, nipaquhiit and katajjaq. Tradition Inuit singing is difficult to learn. During the throat singing the singers are free to use any words regardless of meaning and context. The themes of Inuit throat singing usually include animals and running water.

Inuit throat singing suffered much because of the imposition of ban by the Christian priests. It regained its lost glory as soon as the ban was removed. Organization of throat singing competition in different parts of the world also helped the cause of such a great art. 

Now-a-days with the improvement of technology and intensive research the future of such a traditional throat singing seems to have found its right track. People seem to take interest in learning the traditional art of throat singing and thereby keeping alive the Inuit culture. 

One of the important causes of the popularity of such a singing process is its competitive nature. Two or more people can easily play a game with in a few minutes and that too in a light humorous manner. Throat singing is indeed a great treasure and needed to be preserved for the future singing fanatics.
