1. Voice Teacher
2. Voice Tuner
3. Practice continously
4. Perform at every opportunity

A teacher will train your voice, the voice tuner will guide you when you are off-key, practice makes perfect and performing will build confidence.

All the best!
References :
My voice isn't very obedient.

Just the other day, this guy came up to me and said, "hi, how are ya?" I wanted my voice to say "hi" back, but it just went, "damn, you're ugly, did yo mama rent you from the..." POW! He just levelled me with his right fist.

Yeah, I can't sing either.
References :
To upkeep your vocal, there are a few known ways:
1) Quit smoking
2) Guggle with clean water for 3 minutes every morning when you wake up. That's when your vocal is just open in the day. It will massage your vocal cord and throat's inside.
3) Stay away from spicy food.
4) Eat more greens and regular excercises to main the stamina to hit that pitch.

During singing:
1) Do not rush into a song.
2) When doing karaoke, not necessary to follow the dots. Feel the music and groove with it YOUR STYLE.
3) Try singing alone to gain confidence, then slowly increase your audience.
4) Do not shy away from audiences. Accept their criticism and improve from there. Every successful singer is like that.
References :
When you are in the carpark, do not breathe so fast because when the car is starting up, it gives out air that can pollute the enviroment.
Drink at least 8 cups of water a day.
Do not shout often.
prastice a few easy songs a day and
soon you will sing good!!!
References :
Training is part of the key to good singing..but it is also important to drink plenty of water,to avoid getting the throat parched dry. Avoid smoking and alcohol also. Take good supply of Vitamin C daily to avoid catching colds as that may affect the throat and hence also the voice's ability to sing. Do singing practise daily. Before going to bed, also gargle your throat with hot, salted water...it makes for a good throat exercise!

You may also opt for voice modulation classes which will teach you how to handle your breath while singing...So that when you sing, your breath is not heard. This takes time and practice.

Definitely avoid shouting loudly..unless it comes with your training..lolz..!!!

Hope this helps! Good Luck in your endeavours.
References :
The best way you can Improve your singing is taking voice lessons with a professional voice trainer. A person trained in Voice technique will help you to develop a safety and healthy voice technique.

You can find a lots of Cd's and Books of voice technique to practice at home, But nothing is better than take lessons with a real person.

A voice teacher will teach you how to take care of your voice, to warm up your voice and will help you to fix any voice technique problems. Voice Teacher will help you to find the adequate range you have and the repertory you should sing depending or your voice skills, range and talent.

That is why is really important to find the right voice teacher. Be careful of people who call them selves voice teachers and they don't have any idea about voice technique. Always ask for a voice teacher background and studies he/she has. That is important.

You can hurt your vocal chords trying to practice by your self, but also a bad teacher can cause a serious damage in your vocal chords because they are not able to teach a healthy technique. Just be careful.

Read my 360's blog: How to find the right voice teacher. Is a guide to help you in your search.

Good luck
References :
I am a Professional Opera Singer, Voice Teacher and recording Artist. Over 12 years of Teaching and Singing Experience, MA in voice Performance.

Well, I also sing...the best things you can do:

--Use it!!
Like someone said above..."the throat is a muscle"...and it is. How do you strengthen muscles? You work them out. You want to be sure not to strain muscles so you don't lift more than you can, etc, so as not to strain or tear the muscle. With singing, you want to gradually build your voice up. You do warmups and try to breath and use your diaphragm and try to smooth your voice out. When singing, open up your entire body, breath into your feet, and try to bring out your tone through the mask of your face. Don't strain, train. If you cannot hit a note, or if your voice cracks...do not force it. Gently warm your voice up and smooth it out. Gently push it, but do not force it. In time, like learning to do splits, you will develop a smoother richer tone, with more flexibility and more range. Keep at it! :)
